The photo-blog of an entirely unknown photographer.

A couple days ago I mentioned that I had yet to get handheld HDR to work really well. Scratch that comment. I've now gotten handheld HDR working quite well, thanks to figuring out how to do much better post-processing alignment. I woke up to a foggy morning a few days ago. Not so foggy as the morning I shot the "Fog Bound" set, but foggy. Unfortunately I didn't get out of the house until the fog was already burning off. I had grabbed my camera on my way to work on the off chance that I saw something spectacular.

I didn't make it very far. The entire neighborhood was awesome looking. For as remote and rural as a couple of these shots look, these are at the field next to a strip mall less than a mile from my house. I was maybe 100' from a main road and the entire lot is no more than about 3-4 acres. It's amazing what you can do when you properly compose the big ugly sign just out of the image.

Once upon a time I was showing some of my pictures to my dad, who used to be a photographer himself. He immediately said I had some strange affinity for shooting into light sources - specifically the sun. The more I look at images that I like and images that I take the more I realize he's right. I think it's funny that he managed to put his finger on my personal style long before I did.

For my technical note: I'm getting the tone mapping process for HDRs down. It's pretty labor intense but I'm starting to get relatively quick at it. I still run the tone-mapped HDRs through lightroom, though I tend to not do very much to them there. It's convenient for doing exports in my standard style and converting between colorspaces. On that topic- I'll note that I ordered some prints of my previous HDRs on metallic paper - I'm excited to see how those turn out!
